The first non-stop flight across the USA was made in 1923 by a Fokker T-2. The flight took almost 2 hours from Long Island to California. Only two of these aircraft were built. One is now on display in the Smithsonian Institution.

One of these aircraft achieved a world altitude record. It was designed in the USA by a Frenchman named LePere in 1917. The name 'Lusac' comes from LePere United States Army Combat. None saw military service in WW1.

This classic 'bush aircraft' first flew in 1926. The model by Khee-Kha is a vacform kit at its finest. Resin parts are included. The kit can be bought with resin floats and decals. The decals are for the Pacific International Airways of Alaska as shown on the model are, available from Arctic Decals. The aircraft was used by the RAF and a few other air forces. It was also used in civillian roles all over the world where its rugged STOL capabilities were useful.

The X-1E was one of a series of experimental rocket-powered aircraft used for high speed flight. It is a later and much faster version of the record breaking aircraft flown by a pilot whose name is claimed to be copyright.
The kit is quite crude with confusing instruction notes.

This experimental aircraft, nicknamed 'The Flaming Pencil", was developed for high speed research. It first flew in 1962. Information from the research helped in the design of the Concorde supersonic airliner. A Bristol 188 can be seen at the Cosford museum.

The Argosy transport aircraft began RAF service in 1964, being finally retired in 1975. It was also used as a cargo aircraft by BEA and other airlines.
The model comes with Aeroclub metal parts. Masters and mouldmaking were by Gordon Stevens.

The DH 108 Swallow first flew in 1946. It was designed as a test bed for swept wing jet aircraft with the development of the Comet in mind. Like the Me 163 Komet, it did not have tailplanes. Three prototypes were built but all were lost in accidents. In one, Geoffery de Havilland was killed.

The AVRO 707 was designed to test the characteristics of the delta wing that was to be used on the Vulcan bomber. It first flew in 1949. Several variants were built, the last one being retired in 1966. A, AVRO Type 707 can be seen at the Cosford museum.

The FD1 claims to be the first Brisith delta wing aircraft. Only one was built. It first flew in 1951. It ended its days as target pratice on the Shoeburyness range - that's no way for a historic little aircraft to go!

The Banshee first flew in 1947 then served with the US Navy and Marine Corps until 1961. It saw action during the Korean War. Without swept back wings, its performance was not a match for the Russian Mig fighters.
